REVELATION OF OCTOBER 27, 1845
Being the Vigil of the Feast of St. Simon and also of St. Jude, who bearing the same name as did the traitor Judas, was frequently mistaken for that wicked betrayer, which caused St. Jude much sorrow. Undoubtedly, to prove through one exterior gesture that he was not the traitor, St. Jude decided to carry habitually a picture of Christ wherever he went. Significantly, on this Vigil our Saviour reveals to Sister Mary of St. Peter that a picture of the Holy Face should be the exterior symbol to be venerated by members in the Work of Reparation, similarly as the Sacred Heart is the exterior object representing His boundless love in the Eucharist. This revelation on the Holy Face here given is one of the most exalted conferred on the nun of Tours, at the end of which our Saviour Himself declares: "Now if there will still be those who will not recognize that this is truly My Work, it is because they close their eyes!"
SINCE OCTOBER 11, the day on which I received the first revelation on the Holy Face in connection with the Work of Reparation for blasphemy, nothing of an extraordinary nature has transpired in my soul. I believe, however, that I am constantly occupied in adoring the august and Holy Face of our Divine Saviour.
During these last days I felt inspired to petition our Lord to grant me new revelations on this Work, since the Archbishop told me during his interview to ask for them.
"You know well, my God, that it is through holy obedience that I address my request, and on the part of our Archbishop," I said to our Saviour after Holy Communion, but He did not deem it opportune to answer me. Instead, He plunged me into profound contemplation of His adorable Face.
This morning, however, as soon as I had arrived in choir for mental prayer, our Lord revealed Himself to me in His usual manner, which always happens when I least expect it. He made me see and hear what marvelous plans He had in mind by revealing to humanity the Work of Reparation, and He explained to me that the communications which He would now impart to me were an answer to my petition addressed to Him a short while before on the part of our Archbishop.
Drawing me strongly to the contemplation of His adorable Face, our Divine Saviour made me see through a ray of light issuing from His august Countenance that the Holy Face which He presented to mankind for their adoration, was indeed the mirror of those unutterable Divine Perfections comprised and contained in the Most Holy Name of God.
It is impossible for me to express in words all that I understood through this intellectual vision, unless it be by those words of the Apostle St. Paul: "The Head of Christ is God." Coming upon this text recently, I was deeply impressed by it because I recognized in these words the truth of that which was revealed to me in my vision.
I then understood by this illumination that as the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the exterior object offered for our adoration, to represent His boundless love in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, so in a parallel manner, in the Work of Reparation, the adorable Face of our Lord is the exterior object offered for the adoration of the members. I saw that by thus honoring and venerating this Sacred Countenance covered anew with outrages, we could atone for blasphemers who attack the Divinity of which this Holy Face is the figure, the mirror and the expression.
By virtue of this Holy Face, offered to the Eternal Father, we can appease His anger and obtain the conversion of the wicked and of blasphemers. Therefore, such a devotion to the Holy Face can in no wise be contrary to the Work of Reparation, but it is rather a stimulus to its widespread growth.
Our Lord also made me see that the Church is His Mystical Body and that Religion is the face of that Mystical Body. Then He showed me this Face as the butt of all the enemies of His Holy Name and I saw that all blasphemers and dissenters inflicted once more the sufferings of the Passion upon our Lord's Holy Face. By this divine illumination I saw also that the impious in uttering wicked words, and in blaspheming the Holy Name of God spit in our Lord's Face, and cover it with mud. I comprehended too that all the blows which dissenters inflict upon Holy Church, attacking Religion, are a renewal of the numerous blows which our Lord's Face received in the Passion, and also that these blows were inflicted on Him by those who attempted to stamp out the Works of God.
After this vision our Lord said to me:
"I seek Veronicas to wipe and venerate My Divine Face which has but few adorers!" And then He reassured me that all persons who would apply themselves to this Work of Reparation would perform the same service in His behalf as that which the saintly Veronica had performed.
Then our Lord addressed me saying:
"To you I give My Holy Face as a recompense for the services you have performed for Me during the past two years. It is true you have actually achieved only little but your heart is filled with ardent desires. To you, therefore, I now give this Holy Face in the presence of My Eternal Father and in virtue of the Holy Ghost. Before all the angels and saints, I offer you this gift of My Holy Countenance through the hands of My Mother and those of St. Veronica who will teach you how it must be venerated."
Then our Lord added:
"By My Holy Face you will work wonders!" He made known to me that He desired to see His Holy Face offered as the exterior object of adoration to all His children who would be associated in the Work of Reparation for Blasphemy. Inviting me to make known His Holy Face from this standpoint, our Lord then declared that the gift of His adorable Countenance which He presented to me on that day was, next to the Sacraments, the greatest gift He could bestow on me.
He showed me how He had prepared me for its reception by tilling the ground of my soul with severe interior trials which I had recently endured, making me understand, however, that He never tempted His children beyond their strength.
I was further given to understand that He had appointed St. Louis, the king of France, as the protector of this Work of Reparation on account of the zeal which this saint evinced for the glory of His Holy Name, and that St. Veronica was to be its protectress because of the service of love which she had rendered Him in wiping His adorable Face on the road to Calvary.
Having finished giving me these vivid revelations on the Work of Reparation, our Lord further declared:
"Now if there will still be those who will not recognize that this is truly My Work, it is because they close their eyes!"
At the end I felt somewhat uneasy concerning the reality of this revelation on account of its great length, but our Lord reassured me saying that He had many different ways of communicating Himself to souls. He said that in my case He accommodated Himself to my meager capacity, and that by now I ought to readily recognize Him, knowing by experience that He always communicated Himself to me in the same sweet and pleasing manner.
